حدَّثَناهُ أبو العباس إسماعيل بن عبد الله، حدثنا عَبْدان الأهوازِي، حدثنا عُبيد الله بن معاذ، حدثنا خالد بن الحارث، حدثنا عَزْرة بن ثابت، عن أبي الزُّبير، عن جابر، قال: أُتي النبي ﷺ يومَ الفَتْح بأبي قُحَافة ورأسُه ولحيتُه كالثَّغامةِ، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "اخْضِبُوا لِحيتَه" (2). It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of the Conquest of Makkah, Abu Quhafah was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the hair of his head and beard was completely white like "thaghamah" (a plant with white flowers). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Change his beard (by applying dye)."

(2) إسناده صحيح. عَبْدان الأهوازي: هو عبد الله بن أحمد بن موسى، وأبو الزبير: هو محمد بن مسلم بن تدرس المكي. Grading: (2) Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (Identification of the narrators): "'Abdan al-Ahwazi" is "'Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Musa", and "Abu al-Zubayr" is "Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus al-Makki". وأخرجه النسائي (9295) عن محمد بن عبد الأعلى، عن خالد بن الحارث، بهذا الإسناد. Reference / Source: And Imam al-Nasa'i (9295) narrated it from Muhammad bin 'Abd al-A'la, from Khalid bin al-Harith, with this same chain. وانظر ما قبله. Note / Clarification: And see (the discussion of) what precedes it. والثَّغَامة: هو نبت أبيض الزهر، وقيل: هي شجرة كأنها الثلج. Note / Clarification: "Al-thaghamah": this is a plant with white flowers. It is also said that it is a tree that is like snow (in whiteness).
