Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5137

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw in a dream as though Abu Jahl came to me and pledged allegiance to me." Then, when Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam, it was said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah, Allah has made your dream come true; this (dream) was Khalid's acceptance of Islam. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is meant by it will be someone else (too)," until Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl accepted Islam, and that proved to be the fulfilment of his dream.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are "thiqah", but what is "mahfuz" (preserved) in it is that, according to the narration of Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin 'Abbad (al-Dabari, the transmitter of the Musannaf of 'Abd al-Razzaq and of the Jami' of Ma'mar bin Rashid), it is reported as "mursal" from "'Abd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri", without mention of Abu Bakr bin 'Abd al-Rahman or 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). It has come likewise in "Jami' Ma'mar" (20365).
Technical note / Inconsistency: However, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated it in "al-Jihad" (55) from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Bakr bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Harith bin Hisham as "mursal"; in it he mentioned Abu Bakr but did not mention 'A'ishah. So the mention of 'A'ishah in it is certainly "not mahfuz" (not preserved). Likewise, the mention of Abu Bakr bin 'Abd al-Rahman is not preserved in al-Dabari's narration from 'Abd al-Razzaq, but it is preserved in Ibn al-Mubarak's narration from Ma'mar.
