Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5086

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that in the tribe of Banu Abd al-Ashhal there were three people than whom no one was better: Sa'd bin Mu'adh, Usayd bin Hudayr and Abbad bin Bishr. Abbad bin Abdullah bin al-Zubayr says: By Allah! My father named me Abbad only because of him (and his greatness).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.
Mention of the virtues of Sayyiduna Abu Dujanah Simak bin Kharashah al-Khazraji (may Allah be pleased with him):

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: The narrators (rijal) of this chain are "la ba'sa bihim" (there is no harm in them; acceptable). Were it not for the "'an'anah" of Ibn Ishaq (who is Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar), i.e. his narrating with the word "'an" (from), this chain would be "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani mentioned in "al-Isabah" (1/83), in the biography of Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him), that Ibn Ishaq said there "Haddathana Yahya bin 'Abbad" (Yahya narrated to us), which is an explicit statement of hearing; however, we did not find his explicit statement of hearing in any of the sources that record this report. And Allah knows best.
Important point: Ibn Hajar mentioned this narration of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) again in "al-Isabah" (3/611) in the biography of 'Abbad bin Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him), and declared it "sahih".
Reference / Source: This narration was recorded by Imam al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (2/47), Abu Ya'la in "al-Musnad" (2389), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Awsat" (896), Ibn 'Abd al-Barr in "al-Isti'ab" (pp. 470-471) and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (9/80 and 89).
Technical note: All these narrations are by way of Ibrahim bin Sa'd, who narrates it from Muhammad bin Ishaq with this same chain, but they did not mention the statement of 'Abbad bin Abd Allah at the end of the narration.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ibn 'Abd al-Barr says: It was mentioned by Abu Ja'far al-Tabari and Abu al-'Abbas Muhammad bin Ishaq al-Sarraj; both of them said: Muhammad bin Humayd (who is al-Razi) narrated to us; he said: Salamah bin al-Fadl narrated to us from Muhammad bin Ishaq with this same chain; and they mentioned the statement of 'Abbad at the end of the narration.
