It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him): We were in a vanguard of two hundred horsemen whose commander was Sayyiduna Zayd bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). Ahead of us were Sayyiduna Thabit bin Aqram and Sayyiduna Ukkashah bin Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with them both). When we passed by the two of them, they had been martyred, which greatly grieved us, Khalid bin al-Walid and the Muslims coming behind us. We stopped by them, and on the order of Khalid bin al-Walid a grave was dug for them, and we buried them with their blood.
Mention of the virtues of Sayyiduna Ma'n bin Adi bin al-Ajlan al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him):

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Correction: In all the manuscripts except manuscript (S) the word is distorted into "suriyna", and in manuscript (S) it is written "surna", with a sign above it indicating that one copy has "suriyna". The correct word is "si'a bina", corrected from Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat" (3/ 86) and "Tarikh Dimashq" (11/ 112). Linguistic note: "Si'a bina" means: grief and sorrow befell us.
Reference / Source: This narration is in Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat al-Kubra" (3/ 86) from al-Waqidi, except that there he named his teacher "Abd al-Malik Sulayman". Technical note / Examination of narrators: This is in fact the name of "Fulayh bin Sulayman", as al-Waqidi himself stated explicitly, and "Fulayh" is his nickname, which came to prevail over his name. Al-Waqidi sometimes also calls him "Abd Allah" in his "al-Maghazi", as happened here in the author's narration. Fulayh is "hasan al-hadith", so the chain above al-Waqidi would be "hasan" were it not that al-Waqidi is alone in narrating it (since al-Waqidi is weak). Historical note: Among those who mentioned that these two were killed in the wars of apostasy (Hurub al-Riddah) is Imam al-Zuhri, as al-Bayhaqi recorded in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (8/ 175 and 183), and that their killer was Tulayhah bin Khuwaylid al-Asadi.
