It is narrated from Jabalah bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him), the brother of Zayd bin Harithah, that two saddles (for riding) were presented as a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) kept one himself and gave the other to Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Note / Clarification: (2) In our manuscripts it has been corrupted into "hullatayn", and in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" into "hullatan" (two garments). The evidence for the corruption is that the pronoun that comes afterwards is masculine, "ahaduhuma" and "al-akhar" (whereas "hullah" is feminine).
Grading: (3) This chain is "extremely weak". Abu Bakr bin Abi Darim, al-'Ala' bin 'Amr al-Hanafi and Ibrahim bin Yusuf al-Sabi'i have all been criticized. Technical note: Hudayj bin Mu'awiyah narrated it from Abu Ishaq, once as "mursal" and once as "mawsul" (connected) by mentioning Jabalah, and we have mentioned at number (5026) that Abu Ishaq did not hear from Jabalah bin Harithah. Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir, in "Tarikh Dimashq" 19/ 360, narrated it via Shurayh bin Maslamah > Ibrahim bin Yusuf, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani narrated it in "Akhbar Asbahan" 12/ 222 via Hudayj bin Mu'awiyah > Abu Ishaq > Jabalah bin Harithah, except that he said: "He gave one of them (the garments) to Zayd and the other to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)." Reference / Source: Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi narrated this report in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (317) via Hudayj bin Mu'awiyah, from Abu Ishaq ('Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i), who said that Jabalah (bin Harithah) was among the tribe, and the people of the tribe came to him and said something; then he mentioned several hadiths, one of which is this hadith of ours. Details of the narration: Its wording is like the wording of Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani, except that it mentions 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in place of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
