It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both); he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The Throne of the Most Merciful shook at the death of Sa'd bin Mu'adh." A man said to Jabir: Al-Bara' (bin Azib) says that the (bier's) couch shook. Jabir replied: There were some old grudges between these two tribes, the Aws and the Khazraj (which is why the wording was changed); I myself heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The Throne of the Most Merciful shook at the death of Sa'd bin Mu'adh."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "sahih". Abu Musa is Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, Abu 'Awanah is al-Waddah bin 'Abdullah al-Yashkuri, al-A'mash is Sulayman bin Mihran, and Abu Salih is Dhakwan al-Samman. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (3803) recorded it from Muhammad bin al-Muthanna, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Its marfu' part (without the story) was recorded by al-Bukhari (3803) through the route of Abu 'Awanah, Muslim (2466) through the route of 'Abdullah bin Idris al-Awdi, Ibn Majah (158) through the route of Abu Mu'awiyah Muhammad bin Khazim, and Ibn Hibban (7031) through the route of Abu 'Ubaydah 'Abd al-Malik bin Ma'n; all four of them narrated it from Sulayman al-A'mash > Abu Sufyan Talhah bin Nafi' > Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him). Technical note: However, Abu 'Ubaydah, in his narration, joined "Abu Salih al-Samman" with Abu Sufyan. Important point / Research: So (it is established that) al-A'mash heard the marfu' hadith from both men (Abu Salih al-Samman and Abu Sufyan), and both of them narrate it from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him); but Abu Salih al-Samman added "the story mentioned" in his narration, which Abu Sufyan did not mention. Details of the narration: This narration has passed with the author under number (4987) through the route of Mu'adh bin Rifa'ah > Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), with similar wording and some additions.
