Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this word was distorted into "Hakim" (with kaf), whereas the correct form is "Halim" (with lam), as the attribution "al-Halimi" is recorded in al-Sam'ani's "al-Ansab".
Grading: (2) This report is "hasan", if Allah wills, as explained earlier. This is a chain whose narrators are "la ba'sa bihim",
Technical note / Defect ('illah): but there is disagreement over it on the part of 'Abd Allah (Ibn al-Mubarak). "'Abdan" (whose name is 'Abd Allah bin 'Uthman bin Jabalah, 'Abdan being a nickname, as it comes in the author's narration) narrated it from Ibn al-Mubarak, while Ibn al-Mubarak's other students contradicted him. They narrated it from Ibn al-Mubarak, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Sa'd, from 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah (with no mention of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah). However, they added a narrator named "Muhammad bin Sa'd" between Muhammad bin Ishaq and 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah. Al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir": 1/88 and Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil": 7/261 gave him a separate biographical entry; Abu Hatim al-Razi declared him "majhul", while al-Bukhari merely said "mursal".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Moreover, the other companions of Muhammad bin Ishaq (the narrators of the Sirah) contradicted Ibn al-Mubarak in it; they narrated it from Ibn Ishaq, from Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah, "munqati'" (broken). And Allah the Exalted knows best what is correct.
Reference / Source: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated it in "al-Jihad": (94) (which is from the narration of Sa'id bin Rahmah Abu 'Uthman al-Massisi from him) from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Sa'd, from 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah, who said: … (then he mentioned the narration).
Reference / Source: Likewise, Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah": (3133) via al-Hasan bin 'Isa bin Masarjis (the client of Ibn al-Mubarak), from Ibn al-Mubarak, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Muhammad bin Sa'd, from 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah.
Reference / Source: Ibn Ishaq narrated it in "al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah" (the narration of Muhammad bin Salamah al-Harrani, after the printed part of the Yunus bin Bukayr narration: 517) and (the narration of Ibn Hisham from Ziyad al-Bakka'i: 2/94-95); al-Tabari in "al-Tarikh": 2/528 via Salamah bin al-Fadl; Ibn al-Mundhir in "al-Tafsir" after (1187) via Ibrahim bin Sa'd al-Zuhri; and al-Bayhaqi in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah": 3/285 via Yunus bin Bukayr. All of them (Muhammad bin Salamah, al-Bakka'i, Salamah bin al-Fadl, Ibrahim bin Sa'd and Yunus) narrated it from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said: "Muhammad bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Sa'sa'ah al-Mazini informed me", and so he mentioned it "munqati'".
Reference / Source: Sa'id bin Mansur narrated it in "al-Sunan": (2842) via Sa'id bin Abi Hilal, from a man of Banu Mazin, that it reached him that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up on the day of Uhud, and then he mentioned something similar.
Reference / Source: Similarly, Ishaq bin Rahawayh narrated it in his "Musnad" [as cited in al-Hafiz's "al-Matalib al-'Aliyah": (4261)] from Hamzah bin al-Harith bin 'Umayr al-Basri, from his father, from 'Amr bin Yahya bin 'Umarah al-Mazini.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This too is "mu'dal", because 'Amr bin Yahya is one of the "Atba' al-Tabi'in" (followers of the Successors).
Note / Clarification: (1) In our manuscripts this word comes thus, with the ya' dropped and the kasrah alone sufficing, and this is permissible in the Arabic language, though rare (bi-nudrah).
