Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4965

Ibrahim al-Abdari narrates from his father that he said: Mus'ab bin Umayr was the most handsome and good-looking of the young men of Makkah. His parents loved him dearly; his mother used to dress him in the finest and most delicate clothes, and he was the most fragrant person in Makkah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to mention him, saying: "I have not seen anyone in Makkah with more beautiful hair, finer clothing, or raised in greater comfort than Mus'ab bin Umayr."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) In the manuscripts this word was distorted into "al-'Abdi"; we have corrected it (to al-'Abdari) from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" and Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat": 3/108. "Al-'Abdari" is an attribution to 'Abd al-Dar bin Qusayy.

Grading: (2) This narration is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (good through supporting reports), although the present chain is "extremely weak" on account of Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi and its "irsal".
Details of the narration: This report is narrated in Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat": 3/108 from al-Waqidi. Muhammad (the father of Ibrahim), who is Muhammad bin Thabit bin Shurahbil al-'Abdari al-Hajabi, is a Tabi'i, so the report is "mursal". However, a similar report is narrated through another weak route, which will come at no. (6785).
Technical note / Lexicon: "Al-limmah" refers to hair of the head shorter than the "jummah"; it is so called because it touches (alammat) the shoulders, and when it grows longer it is called "jummah".
