This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(4922). Grading: (2) Its narrators are "la ba'sa bihim", Technical note / Defect ('illah): but the mention of 'Abd Allah (Ibn Mas'ud) in it is not preserved (mahfuz); rather, what is preserved is that it is the own statement of "Zirr bin Hubaysh", as will come later. Also, there is disagreement about the first banner that was tied, as explained at no. (4922). Technical note / Narrator identification: 'Asim (in the chain) is Ibn Abi al-Najud. Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah": (4048) from Hannad bin al-Sari, from Abu Bakr bin 'Ayyash, from 'Asim, from Zirr bin Hubaysh (as Zirr's own statement); it has no mention of Ibn Mas'ud. 25/ 213. Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq": 60/167 via Ahmad bin Asad bin 'Asim al-Bajali, from Abu Bakr bin 'Ayyash > 'Asim > Zirr bin Hubaysh. (The name of Zirr has dropped out of the printed edition of Ibn 'Asakir; it is established in Ibn Manzur's "Mukhtasar Tarikh Dimashq": 25/213.) Reference / Source: Al-Haythami, in "Majma' al-Zawa'id": 6/67, attributed it to al-Tabarani, made it the statement of Zirr bin Hubaysh, and called its chain "hasan". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Support for it is also reported from the statement of 'Amir al-Sha'bi, in Ma'mar bin Rashid's "al-Jami'": (19880), Khalifah bin Khayyat's "Tarikh": p. 62, Ahmad bin Hanbal's "Fada'il al-Sahabah": (1506), Abu Nu'aym's "al-Hilyah": 1/108 and 4/315, and Ibn 'Asakir: 10/42; and in some of the chains the narrators are "thiqah". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A similar narration is likewise reported from Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad: 3/(1539) and elsewhere: "'Abd Allah bin Jahsh was the first commander appointed in Islam." Grading: But its chain is weak.
