Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4959

Yahya bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Labibah narrates from his grandfather that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul! It is indeed written with Allah in the seventh heaven: Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib is the lion of Allah and the lion of His Messenger."

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) Our manuscripts had "bin Labib", and in manuscript (Z) a "dabbah" (doubt mark) was placed over it. We have established the correct text from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak". It may be that in the manuscripts it is a distortion of "Labibah", since al-Daraqutni was asked: in some hadiths it is "Ibn Labibah" and in some "Ibn Abi Labibah", so which is more correct? He said: This and that (both are correct).

Grading: (3) Its chain is "da'if jiddan" (very weak). About Yahya bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Labibah (who is Yahya bin Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Labibah, also called Ibn Labibah), Ibn Ma'in said: "His hadith is nothing (unreliable)", and al-Dhahabi said in the "Talkhis": "Yahya is wahin (very weak)." We say: and his grandfather is not known.
