It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Sayyiduna Hamzah on the day of the Battle of Uhud, when his nose and ears had been cut off and his body had been mutilated. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were it not for fear of the grief of Safiyyah (the sister of Sayyiduna Hamzah), I would have left him (on this very field) until Allah Almighty gathers him from the bellies of the birds and the beasts." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) shrouded him in a namirah (a striped cloak).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: (1) This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi"; this particular chain is one whose narrators are "la ba'sa bihim", Technical note / Defect ('illah): but Usamah bin Zayd (al-Laythi) made a mistake in it: he made it "al-Zuhri from Anas", whereas in fact it is "al-Zuhri from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik from Jabir bin 'Abd Allah", as explained at nos. (1367) and (2590), where several routes from Usamah bin Zayd al-Laythi himself were given.
