It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Allah Almighty revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, I killed seventy thousand people in retribution for Yahya bin Zakariyya (peace be upon them both), and indeed I will kill seventy thousand and seventy thousand (that is, one hundred and forty thousand) people in retribution for your daughter's son (Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him)." These are the words of the narration of Abu Bakr al-Shafi'i, while in the narration of Qadi Abu Bakr bin Kamil the words are: "I killed in retribution for the blood of Yahya bin Zakariyya, and I will kill (as many) in retribution for the blood of your daughter's son."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note (error in the name): The author (al-Hakim) used to give the name of his shaykh's father as "Muhammad" in this way. He wrote this same name in "Ma'rifat 'Ulum al-Hadith" (p. 143) as well, in the course of a question he put to him. Ibn 'Asakir also transmitted this question in "Tarikh Dimashq" (13/ 13). This confirms that it is the author himself who gave the name of his shaykh's father as Muhammad, and he is alone in this. For al-Daraqutni narrated from this same al-Hasan al-Sabi'i in "al-'Ilal" (17) and "al-Sunan" (1887) and gave his father's name as "Ahmad", and al-Daraqutni is more accurate than al-Hakim in recording names. Likewise Abu Nu'aym narrated from him in his books and gave his father's name as "Ahmad", and this is what is well known in the biographical works that mention him. Nor is there anyone named Muhammad among the forefathers of the said person, such that we could say he was ascribed to him. And Allah the Exalted knows best.

Correction of the text: In manuscripts (Z) and (S) this name had been distorted into "al-Husayn". In (S) it was like that, then "al-Hasan" was written above it and marked as corrected.

Grading of the report: This report is "munkar", as was explained at number (3184).
