It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): Whenever I see Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), tears begin to flow from my eyes. That is because one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of his house, found me in the mosque, took my hand and leaned on me. I went along with him until he reached the market of Banu Qaynuqa'. He (peace and blessings be upon him) did not speak to me; he walked around there and looked, then he returned and I returned with him. He sat in the mosque with his knees drawn up (ihtiba') and said to me: "Call the little one to me." So Husayn came running and fell into his lap (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he put his hand into the blessed beard of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began opening Husayn's mouth and putting his own saliva into his mouth, saying: "Allahumma inni uhibbuhu fa-ahibbahu (O Allah, I love him, so love him too)."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Verification of the text: The wording is like this in manuscripts (Z) and (B), and it means that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would put something from his blessed mouth into the mouth of al-Husayn. In manuscripts (S), (M) and ('A) there is a blank space in place of the word "fihi" (the first one, which is a preposition with its object).
Grading: This hadith is "qawi" (strong). This chain is "hasan" in corroborating chains and supporting reports because of Hisham bin Sa'd. Abu 'Ubaydah bin al-Fudayl bin 'Iyad is disputed: al-Daraqutni declared him thiqah and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", while al-Jawraqani and Ibn al-Jawzi declared him weak. Error and correction: The mention of "al-Husayn bin 'Ali" in this report (which led the author to cite it among the virtues of al-Husayn) is an "error" (wahm). Most probably it comes from Abu 'Ubaydah bin al-Fudayl, because a group narrated it from Hisham bin Sa'd and mentioned "al-Hasan bin 'Ali", the brother of al-Husayn. Likewise Nafi' bin Jubayr (bin Mut'im) narrated it from Abu Hurayrah in the "Two Sahihs" and elsewhere with mention of "al-Hasan bin 'Ali" (as its referencing passed at number 4847). This confirms that the mention of al-Husayn here is an error. Reference / Source: Ahmad (16/ 10891) narrated it from Hammad bin Khalid al-Khayyat, from Hisham bin Sa'd, with this chain, and in it "al-Hasan bin 'Ali" is mentioned. Corroborations: A group corroborated Hammad al-Khayyat in mentioning "al-Hasan": al-Layth bin Sa'd (Musnad al-Bazzar 8155, al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" 1656), Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Abi Fudayk (Ibn Sa'd 6/ 360, al-Bukhari in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" 1183), Khallad bin Yahya (Abu Muhammad al-Fakihi's "Fawa'id" 135, "al-Hilyah" 2/ 35, Ibn 'Asakir 13/ 193), al-Hasan bin 'Ali al-Razzaz al-Qurashi (Ibn 'Asakir 13/ 192) and al-Qasim bin al-Hakam (Ibn 'Asakir 13/ 193). All five of these narrators mention "al-Hasan bin 'Ali" from Hisham bin Sa'd, not his brother al-Husayn.
