Ibn Umar (al-Waqidi) said: Ali bin Muhammad told me that Maslamah bin Muharib said: Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) died in the year 50 AH, on 5 Rabi' al-Awwal, at the age of 46. Sa'id bin al-As led his funeral prayer, and he was weeping; and his illness lasted forty days.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Correction of the text: The name "'Ali bin Muhammad" has dropped out of the printed edition, and he is known as "Abu al-Hasan al-Mada'ini".
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd also narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" (6/ 393), and through his route Ibn 'Asakir (13/ 302), from 'Ali bin Muhammad al-Mada'ini, from Maslamah bin Muharib, from Harb bin Khalid (who is the son of Yazid bin Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan), who said: "Al-Hasan bin 'Ali died on the 5th of Rabi' al-Awwal, in the year 50 AH." Variation in the date: This narration goes against what passed at number (4846), that he died in the year 49 AH. There are other views on this as well, which we mentioned there. 303. Funeral prayer: Sa'id bin al-'As's leading the funeral prayer over al-Hasan bin 'Ali has passed just above at number (4855), narrated with a hasan chain from Abu Hazim Salman al-Ashja'i (who was present at his death). And there is no disagreement about this. See further "Tarikh Dimashq" (13/ 300-303 and 303).
