أخبرنا أبو العباس محمد بن أحمد المحبوبي، حدثنا سعيد بن مسعود، حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى، أنا سفيان، عن سالم بن أبي حفصة، قال: سمعت أبا حازم يقول: إني لشاهدٌ يوم مات الحسن بن علي، فرأيت الحُسين بن علي يقول لسعيد بن العاص، ويطعنُ في عُنقه ويقول: تَقدَّم، فلولا أنها سُنّةٌ ما قُدِّمت، وكان بينهم شيءٌ، فقال أبو هريرة: أتنفسُون على ابن نبيكم ﷺ بتربة تَدفِنُونه فيها، وقد سمعتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ يقول: "مَن أحبَّهُما فقد أحبَّني، ومَن أبغضَهُما فقد أبغضني" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يخرجاه.

It is narrated from Abu Hazim that he said: I was present on the day Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) died. I saw Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) prodding Sa'id bin al-As in the neck and saying: "Go forward (and lead the funeral prayer); were it not the Sunnah, I would never have put you forward." And there was some ill feeling between them. Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you begrudge the son of your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the soil (a grave site) in which you would bury him, when I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever loves them both has loved me, and whoever bears hatred toward them both has borne hatred toward me."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) إسناده حسن من أجل سالم بن أبي حفصة، فهو صدوق حسن الحديث، وقد تابعه على المرفوع أبو الجَحاف داود بن أبي عوف كما تقدم تخريجه عند الحديث (4833). سفيان: هو ابن سعيد الثوري، وأبو حازم: هو سلمان الأشجعي.
Grading of the chain: This chain is "hasan" because of Salim bin Abi Hafsah; he is "saduq" (truthful) and "hasan al-hadith". He was corroborated on the marfu' part by Abu al-Jahhaf Dawud bin Abi 'Awf, as its referencing has already passed under hadith (4833). Sufyan is "Ibn Sa'id al-Thawri" and Abu Hazim is "Salman al-Ashja'i".
وأخرجه أحمد 16 / (10872) عن عبد الله بن الوليد العَدَني، عن سفيان الثوري، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (16/ 10872) narrated it from 'Abdullah bin al-Walid al-'Adani, from Sufyan al-Thawri, with this chain.
