It is narrated from Sufyan bin al-Layl that when the matter (of the peace settlement) that was to happen between Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) had taken place, I came to him in Madinah while he was sitting among his companions (then the narrator mentioned the long hadith). He said: We discussed the adhan in his presence, and some of us said that the adhan began with the dream of Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim. Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to him: "The matter of the adhan is far greater than that. Jibril (peace be upon him) gave the adhan in the heaven with each phrase twice and taught it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he gave the iqamah with each phrase once and taught that too to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." So when Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) became ruler, he gave the adhan (accordingly).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(4745). Grading of the chain: This chain is "talif" (severely weak) because of Nuh bin Darraj, and discussion of him has already passed under hadith number (4745). Technical note / Weakness: Several reports similar to the statement of al-Hasan bin 'Ali have come regarding the beginning of the Adhan; al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar mentioned them in "al-Fath" (3/ 8) and declared all of them weak. He said: "The truth is that nothing in these hadiths is authentic." Verification (the beginning of the Adhan): Then al-Hafiz (Ibn Hajar) affirmed as authentic that the Adhan in fact began with the dream of 'Abdullah bin Zayd, which Ahmad (26/ 16477 and 16478), Abu Dawud (499), Ibn Majah (706), al-Tirmidhi (189), Ibn Hibban (1679) and others narrated from the hadith of 'Abdullah bin Zayd himself, and its chain is "hasan".
