Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4772

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: "Let us call our sons and your sons" [Surah Al Imran: 61], the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) and said: 'Allahumma ha'ula'i ahlu bayti' (O Allah, these are my household).
The two Shaykhs agreed on the soundness of this chain and used it as evidence, but they did not record it in this place; with this same chain they recorded only the story of Abu Turab.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Only in manuscript (Z) is "Busr" written in place of "Qutaybah", and this is an error.

Grading: Its chain is "jayyid", and it is a repetition of the earlier hadith no. (4770).

Reference / Source: Muslim (2404) (32) recorded exactly this hadith - i.e. the hadith of the Mubahalah - with this chain from Qutaybah bin Sa'id, within a long hadith. Al-Bukhari did not record it; indeed al-Bukhari did not narrate anything at all from Bukayr bin Mismar, let alone use him as proof as the author (al-Hakim) claimed. What is meant by "the story of Abu Turab" is Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan's saying to Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas in that long hadith: "What prevents you from reviling Abu Turab?"
