It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse was revealed: "Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves" [Surah Al Imran: 61], the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) summoned Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyidah Fatimah, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) and supplicated: 'Allahumma ha'ula'i ahli' (O Allah, these are my household).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is "jayyid" (good) because of Bukayr bin Mismar; he is saduq and there is no harm in him. Important point: But the "preserved" (mahfuz) position is that this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about 'Ali, Fatimah and their two sons was after the revelation of the verse of Surat al-Ahzab ﴿إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا﴾ (Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and to purify you with a thorough purification), and a note on this has passed under the long narration no. (4626). As for the verse mentioned here, it is called "the verse of Mubahalah". Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (2999) recorded it from Qutaybah bin Sa'id with this chain and said: "This hadith is hasan sahih gharib." Reference / Source: With wording like that here, but without mentioning the text of the verse, this narration has passed at no. (4759) via Thabit bin 'Ali al-Jazari from Bukayr bin Mismar. (4772). Reference / Source: And it will be repeated at no. (4772). Important point: As for the story of the Mubahalah, concerning which the verse mentioned here was revealed, Sa'id bin Mansur recorded it in the tafsir section of his "Sunan" (500), and Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 98 and 14/ 549) and others, from al-Sha'bi, "mursal": "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to invoke mutual curses (mubahalah) with the people of Najran, he took hold of the hands of al-Hasan and al-Husayn, and Fatimah was walking behind him." Grading: Its narrators are "thiqah". Reference / Source: Something similar is found from al-Hasan al-Basri, "mursal", in Ahmad bin Hanbal's "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1374), and its narrators are also "thiqah".
