It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out one morning wearing a patterned cloak made of black hair. Then Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) took him inside the cloak; then Sayyiduna al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and he took him inside as well; then Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came, and he took her inside as well; then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and he included him in the cloak along with them all. Then he said: "Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O household of the Prophet, and to purify you thoroughly." [Surah al-Ahzab: 33]
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, but they did not record it!

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Linguistic analysis: In some manuscripts this word is dotted with the letter "jim" (murajjal), and in some it is undotted, with the letter "ha'" (murahhal). Both are correct, as al-Qadi 'Iyad said in "al-Mashariq" (1/ 284): "It is (a garment) embroidered with images of camel saddles (rihal), in which case it is said with 'ha''; or with images of cooking pots (marajil) or of men (rijal), in which case it is with 'jim'."
(4702). Grading: This hadith is "sahih". Mus'ab bin Shaybah, although "layyin al-hadith" (soft in hadith), was selectively narrated from by Imam Muslim for this hadith, and al-Tirmidhi and al-Baghawi graded it sahih. The hadiths of a group of Companions support it (shawahid), which have passed at nos. (3600), (3601), (4626) and (4702). Reference / Source: Muslim (2424) recorded it via Muhammad bin Bishr, from Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah, with this chain. So al-Hakim's (treating it as an addition, istidrak) is an oversight on his part. Reference / Source: This hadith will come later in brief, with mention of the "mirt murahhal" (embroidered wrap), at no. (7577) via Yahya bin Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah, from his father. Important point: As for the "mirt murahhal", it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it, as in the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) with a "sahih chain" in Musnad Ahmad (41/ 24675) and elsewhere: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray while wearing one of these murahhal (embroidered) wraps." Reference / Source: His (peace and blessings be upon him) praying in a "mirt murahhal" is also mentioned in the hadith of Hudhayfah in Ahmad (23334) and elsewhere, with a chain in whose narrators there is no harm; in this story he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying in a "mirt murahhal" belonging to one of his wives. Note: In the narration of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in Musnad Ahmad, the "mirt" is explained as "black wraps". Linguistic analysis: Al-Khattabi said in "Ma'alim al-Sunan" (4/ 189): "The mirt is a wrap worn as a lower garment. Abu 'Ubaydah said: A mirt may be of wool or of silk (khazz). The 'murahhal' is one with stripes (lines), and it is said that it is called murahhal because it bears images of camel saddles (rahl) or similar shapes."
