حدثنا الأستاذ أبو الوليد، حدثنا (2) الهيثم بن خَلَف الدُّوري، حدثنا سَوَّار بن عبد الله العَنْبري، حدثنا المعتمِر، قال: قال أَبي: حدثنا الحُرَيث بن مُخَشِّي: أنَّ عليًّا قُتل صبيحةَ إحدى وعشرين من رمضان، قال: فسمعتُ الحسنَ بن عليٍّ يقول وهو يَخطُب، وذكرَ مناقبَ عليّ، فقال: قُتل ليلةَ أُنزل القرآنُ، وليلةَ أُسريَ بعيسى، وليلةَ قُبض موسى، قال: وصلّى عليه الحسنُ بن عليّ (3).

It is narrated from Hurayth bin Mukhashshi that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred on the morning of the 21st of Ramadan. The narrator says: I heard Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) delivering a sermon in which he mentioned the virtues of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "He was martyred on the very night in which the Qur'an was revealed, in which Isa (peace be upon him) was raised to the heavens, and in which the soul of Musa (peace be upon him) was taken." The narrator says: Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) led his funeral prayer.

Note / Clarification: The word "haddathana" (he narrated to us) dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B).
(3) إسناده ضعيف لجهالة الحريث بن مُخَشِّي، ويقال: مُخَشّ، بحذف الياء، وأما صلاة الحسن بن عليّ على أبيه فصحيحة كما سيأتي في الرواية التالية. وأخرجه أبو القاسم البغوي في "معجم الصحابة" بإثر (1825) ومن طريقه أبو بكر القَطِيعي في زياداته على "فضائل الصحابة" لأحمد بن حنبل (939)، وابن عساكر 42/ 586 عن سوَّار بن عبد الله، بهذا الإسناد. مختصرًا بقول حريث بن مخشي في ذكره يوم وفاة عليٍّ.
Grading: Its chain is weak because Hurayth bin Mukhashshi (or, without the ya', Mukhashsh) is unknown. However, al-Hasan bin Ali leading the funeral prayer over his father is authentic, as will come in the next narration.
Reference / Source: Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi recorded it in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (after number 1825), and by way of him Abu Bakr al-Qati'i in his additions to Ahmad bin Hanbal's "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (939), and Ibn 'Asakir (42/ 586), from Sawwar bin Abd Allah, with this chain, abridged to the statement of Hurayth bin Mukhashshi mentioning the day of Ali's death.
وأخرجه البخاري في "التاريخ الأوسط" 1/ 528، ومن طريقه ابن عساكر 42/ 586 عن أبي النعمان محمد بن الفضل السدوسي، عن المعتمر، به إلى قوله: يخطب بذكر مناقب عليٍّ. وسيأتي ذكر صلاة الحسن بن عليٍّ على أبيه في الطريق التي بعده.

The mention of al-Hasan bin Ali leading the funeral prayer over his father will come in the route after it.
هذا وقد اختُلف في يوم مقتل عليٍّ ﵁ كما تقدم بيانه برقم (4639).
