It is narrated from Jurayy bin Kulayb al-Amiri that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) set out for Siffin, I disliked the fighting, so I came to Madinah and presented myself before the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). She asked: "Where are you from?" I said: From the people of Kufah. She asked: "From which tribe?" I said: From Banu Amir. She said: "Welcome, may your coming be blessed. What brings you here?" I said: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) has set out for Siffin, and I disliked the war, so I came here. She asked: "Had you given him your pledge of allegiance?" I said: Yes. She said: "Then go back to him and stay with him. By Allah! He has neither gone astray himself, nor has anyone gone astray through him."

Grading: Its chain has lin (weakness) in it because of "Jurayy al-'Amiri". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i is alone in narrating from him. Naming his father "Kulayb" in the author's (al-Hakim's) narration is an error, because in al-Tabarani's narration he is named "Jurayy bin Samurah", and likewise Ibn Hibban named him in his "al-Thiqat", and this is correct. Most probably the error in his father's name here came from "al-Harith bin Mansur", who is not that strong and made mistakes. The origin of his error is that Abu Ishaq ('Amr bin Abd Allah al-Sabi'i) also narrates from another man named "Jurayy bin Kulayb al-Nahdi al-Kufi", and this Jurayy bin Kulayb al-Nahdi likewise narrates from Ali bin Abi Talib; so the two biographies got mixed up for al-Harith bin Mansur. In fact they are two men, one "Nahdi" and the other "'Amiri". Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (24/ 12) by way of Yusuf bin Abi Ishaq al-Sabi'i, from his father, from Jurayy bin Samurah, with it. Al-Haythami said in "Majma' al-Zawa'id" (9/ 135): "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Jurayy bin Samurah, and he is thiqah!" (Note:) Al-Haythami is known for his leniency in declaring unknown narrators trustworthy. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 81) recorded from Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman al-Ru'asi, from his father, from Abu Ishaq, from someone who told him about Maymunah, who said: When the division (in the Ummah) occurred, it was said to Maymunah bint al-Harith: "O Mother of the Believers (whom should we follow)?" She said: "Hold to Ibn Abi Talib (Ali), for by Allah he has not gone astray, nor has anyone been led astray through him."
