It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and said: "O Ali! In you there is a likeness of Isa (peace be upon him): the Jews hated him so much that they slandered his mother, and the Christians loved him (so excessively) that they raised him to a rank that was not his." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Beware! Two kinds of people will also perish concerning me: a lover who exaggerates and praises me for what is not in me, and a slanderous hater whose hatred of me drives him to fabricate lies against me. Remember! I am neither a prophet, nor is revelation sent down to me; rather, I act upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as far as I am able. So whatever I command you of obedience to Allah, obeying me in it is binding upon you, whether you like it or dislike it. But if I or anyone else commands you to disobey Allah, then remember that there is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; obedience is only in what is good (ma'ruf)."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is weak because of the weakness of al-Hakam bin Abd al-Malik (al-Qurashi al-Basri). And only Abu Sadiq narrated from Rabi'ah bin Najidh; Ibn Hibban listed him as trustworthy, but al-Dhahabi said: he is hardly known, and there is some unknownness about him. Reference / Source: Abdullah bin Ahmad (2/1376) and al-Nasa'i (8434) narrated it through the route of Abu Hafs Umar bin Abd al-Rahman al-Abbar, and Abdullah bin Ahmad (1377) through the route of Abu Ghaylan Sa'd bin Talib, both from al-Hakam bin Abd al-Malik with this same chain. Important point: From this report, this statement of Ali is authentically established: "Destroyed concerning me will be one who loves me excessively and one who hates me and slanders me." It is narrated through several routes, among them: Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ahmad, al-Baladhuri, Ibn Abi Asim, Abdullah bin Ahmad, Ibn al-A'rabi, al-Ajurri and Ibn Asakir narrated from Abu al-Sawwar al-Adawi from Ali: "Some people will love me until they enter the Fire through their love of me, and some will hate me until they enter the Fire through their hatred." Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ahmad, Abdullah bin Ahmad and al-Lalaka'i narrated from Abu Maryam al-Hanafi from Ali: "Two men will be destroyed concerning me: one who goes to excess in loving me and one who goes to excess in hating me." Its chain is hasan. It is also narrated from Abu Hibarah al-Duba'i from Ali, and its chain too is hasan. Note / Clarification: "Yuqarrizuni" means: he praises me. Note / Clarification: "Shana'ani" means: my hatred (my enmity). And "al-baht" means: fabrication (slander or inventing lies).
