Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) The hadith is sahih, and this chain is "hasan" on account of Hani' bin Hani' and Hubayrah bin Yarim; both are hasan in hadith, and by each corroborating the other the hadith becomes sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Ishaq (Amr bin Abdullah al-Sabi'i) also narrated it from al-Bara' bin Azib, and both narrations are preserved. This is supported by the fact that from Isra'il (the most reliable narrator from his grandfather Abu Ishaq) one group narrated it as Abu Ishaq from al-Bara', and another group as Abu Ishaq from Hubayrah and Hani' from Ali. Even Ubaydullah bin Musa narrated it from Isra'il in both ways (see Ibn Sa'd: al-Tabaqat 4/33). It will also come from Ali through another route with the author (al-Hakim), and the takhrij of a third route will come.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (7046) narrated it in abridged form (with the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) statement to Ja'far) through the route of Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah, from Ubaydullah bin Musa, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (2/770) and al-Nasa'i (8526) narrated it in full through the route of Yahya bin Adam; Ahmad (931) from Hajjaj bin Muhammad; Abu Dawud (2280) through the route of Isma'il bin Ja'far; and al-Nasa'i (8402) through the route of al-Qasim bin Yazid; all four from Isra'il. But Isma'il bin Ja'far and al-Qasim bin Yazid did not mention Ali offering the daughter of Hamzah in marriage (to the Prophet) and the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) reply.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (857) narrated it in abridged form through Aswad bin Amir, from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from Hani' bin Hani' alone, from Ali. He added that each of the three, on hearing the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) words, did "hajl" (hopped on one foot) out of joy. This addition is gharib and munkar; Hani' is alone in it.
Note / Clarification: It will come with the author at (8202) through the route of Yahya bin Adam from Isra'il in abridged form: "Leave the girl with her maternal aunt, for the maternal aunt is (like) a mother."
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban narrated it in full and abridged form from Ubaydullah bin Musa, and al-Tirmidhi from Waki' bin al-Jarrah, both from Isra'il, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara' bin Azib.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (2279) narrated it with a strong chain from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla as a mursal report, but did not quote its wording. Abu al-Qasim bin Bishran quoted the wording in his "Amali" (1119): Ali took the daughter of Hamzah from the polytheists, and she was a young girl; then Ali, Ja'far and Zayd were mentioned as to which of them had more right to her, and he mentioned something like the hadith of Hani' and Hubayrah. Al-Tahawi narrated it as connected in "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (3080) with the mention of Ali bin Abi Talib, but in abridged form.
Note / Clarification: Something similar will come with the author at (5003) through the route of Nafi' bin Ujayr from Ali bin Abi Talib.
Reference / Source: Ahmad, Muslim and al-Nasa'i narrated it in abridged form (Ali's offering the daughter of Hamzah) through the route of Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, and Ahmad through the route of Abu Salih al-Samman, both from Ali bin Abi Talib.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (1096) and al-Nasa'i (5415) narrated it in abridged form through the route of Sufyan al-Thawri, from Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an, from Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, from Ali.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ali bin Zayd is weak and there is disagreement over his chain. Sa'id bin Abi Arubah narrated it from him as Ibn al-Musayyab from Ibn Abbas, making it part of the Musnad of Ibn Abbas (Ahmad: 4/2491, al-Nasa'i: 5416). Al-Daraqutni (al-Ilal: 372) declared correct the version of al-Thawri and those who followed him (the Musnad of Ali).
Important point: We say: it does have a basis from Ibn Abbas, but with the name of the one who offered the daughter of Hamzah left unstated. Ahmad, al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah and al-Nasa'i narrated it through the route of Qatadah, from Jabir bin Zayd, from Ibn Abbas.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The complete report (apart from the story of offering the daughter of Hamzah) is supported by the hadith of Ibn Abbas in Ahmad (3/2040).
