It is narrated from Sayyiduna Murrah bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mention a tribulation, telling of its nearness. Meanwhile a man passed by who had covered his head with a cloth, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This man will be upon guidance on that day (at the time of the tribulation)." So I got up and went to the man, and it was Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). I turned his face (towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)) and asked: "Is this the man?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.
