Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4595

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar that he said: The name of Abu Sarh was Husam bin al-Harith bin Hubayb bin Jadhimah. Imam al-Hakim says: When Abdullah bin Sa'd gained control over Egypt, his descendants continued there, among them Amr bin Sawwad al-Sarhi, the well-known student of Abdullah bin Wahb. As for al-Walid bin Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt, he was born during the blessed lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and was brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him), but he remained deprived of his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessing.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (3) In manuscripts (Z) and (B) the name is corrupted into "al-Husayn", and in manuscripts (S) and (M) the whole name has dropped out. This chain to al-Waqidi is well known; the author (al-Hakim) frequently quotes al-Waqidi through an intermediary, and in all those places the name is given correctly.

Note / Clarification: (4) In the manuscripts this name is corrupted into "Khuzaymah" (with kha' and za'), whereas the correct form is "Judhaymah" (with jim and dhal), as in the genealogy sources. Al-Nawawi recorded its vocalisation in "Tahdhib al-Asma' wa-l-Lughat" (page 194) in the biography of Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh.
