Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4539

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "On the Day of Resurrection, the first whom al-Haqq (Allah Almighty) will embrace is Umar; the first with whom al-Haqq will shake hands is Umar; and the first whose hand will be taken and who will be led to Paradise is Umar bin al-Khattab."

Grading: This narration is "mawdu'" (fabricated).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Dhahabi judged it fabricated in "Talkhis al-Mustadrak", giving as the reason that there is a "kadhdhab" (lying narrator) in its chain, but he did not name him. From his ruling on hadith no. (4605) we learned that he meant "Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Abd al-Hamid al-Ju'fi", and apparently he followed Muhammad bin Tahir al-Maqdisi in this. But we say that al-Khatib declared the aforementioned Ahmad bin Muhammad "trustworthy", and al-Daraqutni called him "salih al-hadith". Perhaps the real defect is "al-Fadl bin Jubayr al-Warraq", about whom al-Uqayli said: "His hadith is not corroborated."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We say: Dawud bin Ata' al-Madani corroborated him in Ibn Majah (104) and elsewhere, but Dawud bin Ata' is "munkar al-hadith", as al-Bukhari, Abu Zur'ah and others said. Abu Zur'ah al-Razi said: "This report is munkar." Al-Dhahabi added "jiddan" (extremely) in "al-Mizan". Ibn Kathir said in "Jami' al-Masanid" (68): "This hadith is extremely munkar, and it would not be far-fetched for it to be fabricated; the fault in it lies with this Dawud bin Ata'."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In Ibn Asakir (44/158) there is another route for it from Ibn Shihab, but it contains a "kadhdhab" (liar) and a "da'if" (weak) narrator, as Ibn al-Jawzi pointed out in "al-Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (309).
