It is narrated from Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Remain steadfast in the religion (adopt istiqamah), though you will not be able to encompass all deeds fully (or fulfil their due); and know that among your best deeds is prayer, and none keeps up ablution except a believer."

(1037). Grading: This is a sahih hadith; although there is a break (inqita') between Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd and Thawban, because Salim did not hear from him, 'Abd al-Rahman bin Maysarah (Musnad Ahmad 37/ 22414) and Abu Kabshah al-Saluli (Musnad Ahmad 22433, Ibn Hibban 1037) corroborated him. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in (37/ 22378, 22436) through various routes from Imam al-A'mash with this same chain. Note / Clarification: The words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "lan tuhsu" (you will not be able to encompass or count it) mean that you will not have the capacity (to do all good deeds).
