Grading: This report is "sahih", and this present chain is "hasan" because it contains Asim bin Ali (al-Wasiti), and he has been corroborated.
Corroborating chains: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" (3/176) from Amr bin Asim al-Kilabi, and al-Baladhuri in "Ansab al-Ashraf" (10/77) from Sa'dawayh al-Wasiti. Both of them (Amr and Sa'dawayh) narrate it from Sulayman bin al-Mughirah, from Thabit, from Anas, who said: "During the illness in which Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) died, we gathered around his room and asked: How is the caliph of the Messenger of Allah this morning (or this evening)? He looked out at us and said: Are you not pleased with what I do? We said: Of course! We are pleased." This is the wording of Amr bin Asim, while Sa'dawayh's wording is abridged.
