Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4502

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me, follow these two: Abu Bakr and Umar; take guidance from the way of Ammar; and when Ibn Umm Abd tells you something, believe him."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (B) this name has been corrupted into "Abd Allah" (in the full form), whereas it is (Ubayd Allah) in the diminutive form. Among al-Hakim's teachers there is one named "Ahmad bin al-Husayn bin Ubayd Allah al-Marwani" (as Ibn Tahir and al-Sam'ani indicated under the attribution al-Marwani). So it appears that he is this person, and that his father's name was corrupted in the base manuscripts of al-Mustadrak. And Allah knows best.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih", in sha' Allah.
Reference / Source: Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi (Tarikh 13/467) recorded it via Ali bin Abd al-Mu'min al-Za'farani > Waki' > Mis'ar > Abd al-Malik bin Umayr > a mawla of Rib'i > Rib'i > Hudhayfah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He added the mawla of Rib'i to the chain, whereas al-Daraqutni mentioned in "al-Ghara'ib wa al-Afrad" (as cited in Ibn Tahir's Atraf 1962) that this narration is from Abd al-Malik directly from Rib'i, and this agrees with the author's narration here. In any case, what is "mahfuz" (preserved) from Mis'ar is without mention of the mawla of Rib'i, as Abu Yahya al-Himmani and Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated it from Mis'ar (in the previous narration and the coming one, no. 4504).
