Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4492

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man from the people of Paradise is about to appear before you." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, gave the greeting of peace and sat down.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the base manuscripts of al-Mustadrak, the narration of Dirar bin Surad appears in this way, directly from Sharik. However, al-Tabarani narrated this report via Dirar > Yahya bin Ya'la al-Aslami al-Qatawani > Sharik al-Nakha'i (i.e. with Yahya mentioned in between). Likewise, Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Anas al-Qurayti narrated it from Dirar bin Surad with the same addition (Yahya bin Ya'la). Although Dirar does have narrations directly from Sharik al-Nakha'i, it appears that this report is one of those Dirar heard from Sharik through an intermediary; then the author (al-Hakim) overlooked mentioning him, or he dropped out while he was copying the chain. And Allah knows best.

Grading: It is hasan li-ghayrihi, and this chain is "da'if" (weak) due to the weakness of Dirar bin Surad. If the mention of Yahya bin Ya'la al-Aslami in it is established, he too is weak.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: They are corroborated by Abd Allah bin Abd al-Quddus, who narrates it from al-A'mash (Sulayman bin Mihran), but this Abd Allah bin Abd al-Quddus is also weak, and the one narrating from him, Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi, is "matruk" (abandoned).
Reference / Source: Thus al-Tirmidhi (3694) recorded it via Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi > Abd Allah bin Abd al-Quddus > al-A'mash with this same chain, and said: "This is gharib as a hadith of Ibn Mas'ud."
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a narration from Jabir bin Abd Allah (Ahmad 22/14550; with the author under no. 4712), and its chain is "hasan" as a supporting report; it contains the addition of that same statement for Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated (Ahmad 32/19643, al-Bukhari 3693, Muslim 2403): A man asked for the door to be opened, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Open for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." So I opened, and it was Abu Bakr, and I gave him the glad tidings … and he mentioned the same for Umar and Uthman.
