Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4466

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) held authority during his caliphate for two years and seven months.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The text established here is taken from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak" and the printed edition, whereas in our handwritten manuscripts its place was blank. In "Ithaf al-Maharah" (11429) the word "aqama" (stayed/remained) appears in place of "waliya" (was made governor).

Grading: The narrators of this chain have nothing wrong with them (la ba'sa bihim).
Important point: But the correct view is that this is the saying of Nafi' (the freed slave of Ibn 'Umar), and Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) is not in it as an intermediary.
Reference / Source: Thus 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abd al-Malik bin Shaybah narrated it in al-Bukhari's "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" 1/ 350, and Ibrahim bin al-Mundhir al-Hizami in Ibn 'Asakir's "Tarikh Dimashq" 28/ 247. Both of them ('Abd al-Rahman and Ibrahim) narrate it from 'Abd Allah bin Nafi' (al-Sa'igh).
