Grading: It is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrators of this chain have nothing wrong with them (la ba'sa bihim), but it is "mursal", because 'Urwah (bin al-Zubayr) did not meet Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. However, Abu Bakr's burial at night is among the things that 'A'ishah, Mother of the Believers, told him, as in the narration of al-Bukhari (1387) and others. 'Abd al-Rahim was corroborated in mentioning "'Uthman bin al-Walid" between Hisham and his father. This corroboration was made by 'Ali bin Mushir (Jami' Bayan al-'Ilm of Ibn 'Abd al-Barr: 2402) and Za'idah bin Qudamah (the 'Ilal of al-Daraqutni: 3494).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group narrated via Hisham bin 'Urwah > his father, as mursal, that the prayer over Abu Bakr was held in the mosque, and they did not mention "'Uthman bin al-Walid" between Hisham and his father.
Reference / Source: Thus Sufyan al-Thawri ('Abd al-Razzaq 6175, 6552, 6576, al-Bayhaqi 4/ 52), Ma'mar bin Rashid ('Abd al-Razzaq 6552, 6576, Ibn al-Mundhir 3093), Waki' bin al-Jarrah and 'Abd Allah bin Numayr (Ibn Sa'd 3/ 189), 'Abd al-'Aziz bin Muhammad al-Darawardi (Ibn Sa'd 3/ 190), Hafs bin Ghiyath (Ibn Abi Shaybah 3/ 364), Muhadir bin al-Muwarri' (Ibn al-Mundhir 3092) and Sharik al-Nakha'i (al-Dinawari 2179) recorded it. All of them narrate it via Hisham bin 'Urwah > his father as mursal.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Likewise Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah narrated it from Hisham bin 'Urwah, but he said: "from his father, from a freed slave (mawla) of theirs". Abu Nu'aym al-Asbahani recorded it in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (120).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And Isma'il bin Aban al-Ghanawi narrated it via Hisham bin 'Urwah > his father > 'A'ishah, thus making it "connected" by mentioning 'A'ishah. Ibn al-A'rabi (al-Mu'jam: 674) and al-Bayhaqi (4/ 51) recorded it. Al-Bayhaqi said: Isma'il al-Ghanawi is "matruk".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Daraqutni (al-'Ilal: 3494) mentioned that al-Darawardi also narrated it as connected with mention of 'A'ishah. This is questionable, because Ibn Sa'd (as has passed) recorded it via him as mursal, without 'A'ishah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It has already passed as connected via al-Zuhri > 'Urwah > 'A'ishah, but its chain up to al-Zuhri was extremely weak. Therefore the mention of 'A'ishah in it is definitely not sound.
Important point: So the correct view on this is that Hisham bin 'Urwah narrated it via 'Uthman bin al-Walid > 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr as mursal. And it may be that Hisham later heard it directly from his father; this is not unlikely, especially since al-Bukhari and others recorded his narration from his father > 'A'ishah (about al-Siddiq's burial at night), which is a part of this very report here. In those narrations they did not mention 'Uthman bin al-Walid; rather, in some of them Hisham explicitly states that he heard it from his father. So both versions are preserved (mahfuz).
Note / Clarification: It seems that 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr heard the story of the prayer over Abu Bakr in the mosque from the "mawla" (freed slave) mentioned, as Ibn 'Uyaynah stated explicitly in his narration. In the narration of the others his mention was omitted because they were presenting it as evidence (ihtijaj), not as a narration, as the narration of Ma'mar and al-Thawri indicates.
Important point: The upshot of all this is: Hisham heard the story of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq's burial at night from his father 'Urwah, who heard it from his maternal aunt 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
Important point: And Hisham heard the story of the prayer over Abu Bakr in the mosque from 'Uthman bin al-Walid, 'Uthman from his father 'Urwah, and 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr heard it from the mawla of theirs mentioned. Then (later) Hisham also heard it directly from his father without an intermediary. And Allah the Exalted knows best.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The mention of the prayer over Abu Bakr in the mosque is also established from the mursal report of al-Muttalib bin 'Abd Allah bin Hantab, as its referencing has passed (at no. 4457).
