حدثنا أحمد بن كامل القاضي، حدثنا عبد الله بن رَوْح المدائني، حدثنا شَبَابة، حدثنا صالح بن موسى الطَّلْحي، عن معاوية بن إسحاق، عن عائشة بنت طلحة، عن عائشة أم المؤمنين، قالت: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "مَن سَرَّه أَن يَنظُر إِلى عَتيقٍ من النار، فليَنظُرْ إلى أبي بكر". وإنَّ اسمَه الذي سمَّاه أهلُه: لَعبدُ الله بن عثمان بن عامر بن عمرو حيث وُلِد، فغَلَبَ عليه اسمُ عَتيق (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever would be pleased to look at a person freed ('atiq) from the Fire, let him look at Abu Bakr." And the name that his family gave him at his birth was Abdullah bin Uthman bin Amir bin Amr; then the name "Atiq" prevailed over it.
This hadith has an authentic chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده مظلم كما قال الذهبي في "تلخيصه"، من أجل صالح بن موسى الطلحي، فهو متروك الحديث. وقد تقدَّم نحوه برقم (3599) من طريق شبابة - وهو ابن سوّار - أيضًا، عن إسحاق بن يحيى بن طلحة، عن عمه موسى بن طلحة، عن عائشة أم المؤمنين. وإسحاق بن يحيى ضعيف جدًّا.
Grading: Its chain is "muzlim" (dark, i.e. extremely weak), as al-Dhahabi said in al-Talkhis. The reason is Salih bin Musa al-Talhi, who is "matruk al-hadith".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A similar narration has already passed (at no. 3599) via Shababah (bin Sawwar) > Ishaq bin Yahya bin Talhah > his paternal uncle Musa bin Talhah > 'A'ishah, Mother of the Believers. And Ishaq bin Yahya is "very weak".
لكن صحَّ الحديث عن عبد الله بن الزُّبير عند ابن حبان (6864) وغيره، قال: كان اسم أبي بكر عبد الله بن عثمان، فقال له النبي ﷺ: "أنت عَتيق الله من النار"، فسُمِّي عَتِيقًا.
Grading: But the hadith is established as "sahih" from 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr (Ibn Hibban: 6864 and others), who said: Abu Bakr's name was 'Abd Allah bin 'Uthman, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You are the one Allah has freed ('atiq) from the Fire", so he was named 'Atiq.
