Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): For the purpose of corroborating chains and supporting reports this chain is "hasan", because of Abd Allah bin Umar (al-Umari), and he has been corroborated.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi narrated it after hadith (820) by way of Qutaybah bin Sa'id, from Abd Allah bin Nafi' al-Sa'igh, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But he did not mention the date of the Farewell Hajj in it; however, he added: Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them) also performed Hajj al-Ifrad (in the same way).
Reference / Source: Ahmad 10/ (5719) and Muslim (1231) narrated it by way of Ubayd Allah bin Umar al-Umari (the brother of Abd Allah), from Nafi', with this same chain, but they too did not mention the date of the Hajj.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (5939) and al-Nasa'i (3892) narrated it with the same meaning by way of Abd Allah bin Badr, from Ibn Umar, also mentioning Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them), that they did likewise.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih", and it too does not mention the date of the Hajj.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari in his "al-Tarikh al-Awsat" 1/ 350 and al-Bayhaqi at 4/ 341 narrated it through two routes: Abd Allah bin Nafi' al-Sa'igh, from Nafi' bin Abi Nu'aym, from Nafi' the freed slave of Ibn Umar (without mention of the Companion Ibn Umar).
Details of the narration: He mentioned the dates of these events: al-Hudaybiyah, Umrat al-Qada', the conquest of Makkah, Hunayn and al-Ta'if, then the date of the Umrah of al-Ji'ranah, then the date of the Hajj of Attab bin Asid and the Hajj of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and then the date of the Farewell Hajj.
Grading: Its chain is "jayyid" (good).
Note / Clarification: It appears that Nafi' received these dates from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) himself. And Allah knows best.
