Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4420

حدَّثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا علي بن عبد العزيز، حدَّثنا مُسلم ابن إبراهيم، حدَّثنا داود بن عبد الرحمن قال: سمعت عَمرو بن دِينار يحدّث عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عباس: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ اعتَمَر أربعَ عُمَرٍ: عُمرَةَ الحُدَيبِيَّة، وعُمرةَ القَضاء من قابِلٍ، والثالثةَ من الجِعْرانة، والرابعةَ التي مع حَجّتِه (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four Umrahs: the Umrah of al-Hudaybiyah; the Umrah of Qada' in the following year; the third from al-Ji'ranah; and the fourth, the Umrah that he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed together with his Hajj.
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد رجاله ثقات لكنه اختُلف في وصله وإرساله، فوصله داود بن عبد الرحمن - وهو العطار - وخالفه سفيان بن عُيينة فأرسله فلم يذكر فيه ابن عبّاس، وقد صحَّ من حديث أنس بن مالك، فهو صحيح بلا ريب.
Grading: The hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All the narrators of this chain are thiqah; however, there is disagreement over whether it is "connected" or "mursal". Dawud bin Abd al-Rahman al-Attar narrated it as connected, while Sufyan bin Uyaynah contradicted him and narrated it as mursal, not mentioning Ibn Abbas.
Important point: Since this content is established as sahih from the hadith of Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), there is no doubt that it is sahih.
وأخرجه أحمد 4/ (2211) و 5 / (2954)، وأبو داود (1993)، وابن ماجه (3003) والترمذي (816)، وابن حبان (3946) من طرق عن داود بن عبد الرحمن، بهذا الإسناد. وقال الترمذي: حديث حسن غريب.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (4/ 2211, 5/ 2954), Abu Dawud (1993), Ibn Majah (3003), al-Tirmidhi (816) and Ibn Hibban (3946) narrated it through various routes from Dawud bin Abd al-Rahman, with this same chain.
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi declared it "hasan gharib".
وأخرجه الترمذي بإثر (816) من طريق سفيان بن عيينة، عن عمرو بن دينار، عن عكرمة، مرسلًا.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi, immediately after hadith number (816), narrated it "mursal" by way of Sufyan bin Uyaynah, from Amr bin Dinar, from Ikrimah.
وأخرج البخاريّ ذكر عمرة القضاء وحدها (1809) من طريق يحيى بن أبي كثير، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عبّاس.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (1809) narrated only the mention of "Umrat al-Qada'" by way of Yahya bin Abi Kathir, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
وأخرجها أيضًا أبو داود (1997)، وابن حبان (4133) من طريق مجاهد، عن ابن عبّاس، بسند حسن.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1997) and Ibn Hibban (4133) also narrated it by way of Mujahid, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), with a "hasan" chain.
وأخرجها كذلك أحمد 5/ (2868)، وأبو داود (1885)، وابن ماجه (2953)، وابن حبان (3814) من طريق أبي الطفيل، عن ابن عبّاس، بسند قوي.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (5/ 2868), Abu Dawud (1885), Ibn Majah (2953) and Ibn Hibban (3814) also narrated it by way of Abu al-Tufayl, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), with a "strong" chain.
وتقدمت عند المصنف برقم (1806) من طريق ميمون بن مهران عن ابن عبّاس.
Note / Clarification: This narration has already passed in the author's (al-Hakim's) collection at number (1806) by way of Maymun bin Mihran, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
وأخرج ذكر عمرة الجعرانة وحدها أحمد 4 / (2688)، وأبو داود (1890) من طريق أبي الطفيل، عن ابن عبّاس، بسند قوي.
Reference / Source: Only the mention of the "Umrah of al-Ji'ranah" was narrated by Ahmad (4/ 2688) and Abu Dawud (1890) by way of Abu al-Tufayl, from Ibn Abbas, with a "strong" chain.
وأخرجها كذلك أحمد 5/ (2792)، وأبو داود (1884) من طريق سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عبّاس، بسند قوي أيضًا.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (5/ 2792) and Abu Dawud (1884) also narrated it by way of Sa'id bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, with a "strong" chain.
وأخرج ذكر عمرته ﷺ مع حجته أحمد 4 / (2141)، ومسلم (1239)، وأبو داود (1804) من طريق مسلم القُرّي، عن ابن عبّاس.
Reference / Source: The mention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performing Umrah together with his Hajj was narrated by Ahmad (4/ 2141), Muslim (1239) and Abu Dawud (1804) by way of Muslim al-Qurri, from Ibn Abbas.
وأخرجه أيضًا أحمد 1 (161)، والبخاري (1534)، وأبو داود (1800)، وابن ماجه (2976)، وابن حبان (3790) من طريق يحيى بن أبي كثير، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عباس، عن عمر بن الخطاب. وفي باب ذكر عُمَرِه الأربع ﷺ عن أنس بن مالك عند أحمد 19 (12372)، والبخاري (1778 - 1780)، ومسلم (1253) وغيرهم.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (1/ 161), al-Bukhari (1534), Abu Dawud (1800), Ibn Majah (2976) and Ibn Hibban (3790) narrated it by way of Yahya bin Abi Kathir as part of the Musnad of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
Details of the narration: The mention of his (peace and blessings be upon him) four Umrahs is found in the narration of Anas bin Malik in Ahmad (19/ 12372), al-Bukhari (1778-1780), Muslim (1253) and others.
والحُديبية موضع على بعد 22 كم غربَ مكة على طريق جدّة القديم.
Important point: "Al-Hudaybiyah" is a place about 22 kilometres west of Makkah on the old Jeddah road.
والجِعرانة: موضع شمال شرقيِّ مكة على نحو 29 كم منها.
Important point: "Al-Ji'ranah" is a place about 29 kilometres north-east of Makkah.
