حدثناه بكر بن محمد الصيرفي بمَرْو، حدَّثنا إبراهيم بن هلال، حدَّثنا علي بن الحسن بن شَقِيق، حدَّثنا الحُسين بن واقِد، عن يزيد النَّحوي، عن عِكْرمة، عن ابن عبّاس، قال: كان عبدُ الله بن أبي سَرْح يكتب لرسولِ الله ﷺ، فأزلَّه الشيطان فلَحِقَ بالكُفّار، فأمر به رسولُ الله ﷺ أن يُقتل، فاستجارَ له عثمانُ فأجارَه رسولُ الله ﷺ (2). صحيح على شرط البخاريّ، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: Abdullah bin Abi Sarh used to write (the revelation) for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Satan made him slip, and he joined the disbelievers. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be killed. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sought protection for him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him protection.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) حديث قوي، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل إبراهيم بن هلال - وهو ابن عمر البُوزَنْجِرْدي - وقد توبع فيما تقدم برقم (3401). والحسين بن واقد قوي الحديث.
Grading: This hadith is "strong" (qawi), and its chain is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason the chain is (only) hasan is Ibrahim bin Hilal (Ibn Umar al-Buzanjirdi), who has been corroborated, as passed at number (3401). And al-Husayn bin Waqid is strong in hadith.
