Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: There is no harm in its narrators (la ba'sa bihim), but this narration is "mursal".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) fell into "error" in two places here in his book in presenting the chain of this report: first, he mentioned "Ibn Ishaq" in it; second, he made the chain "connected" by mentioning Buraydah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him). In reality, Yunus bin Bukayr narrates it directly from al-Mundhir bin Tha'labah, and he from Abd Allah bin Buraydah, "mursal".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (9/ 41) and "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (4/ 400) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim himself, but there he gave the chain correctly, mentioning neither Ibn Ishaq nor Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him). In this he agreed with the narration of Ridwan bin Ahmad al-Saydalani (from Ahmad bin Abd al-Jabbar).
Details of the narration: Likewise, Waki' bin al-Jarrah narrated it from al-Mundhir bin Tha'labah, from Abd Allah bin Buraydah, "mursal"; and Ibn Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" (46/ 145-146) through Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi from al-Hakim, and through Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis from Ridwan, both via Ahmad bin Abd al-Jabbar, from Yunus bin Bukayr, from al-Mundhir bin Tha'labah, from Abd Allah bin Buraydah, "mursal".
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" (5/ 55), Ibn Abi Shaybah in "al-Musannaf" (12/ 531) and Ishaq bin Rahawayh (as in al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "al-Matalib al-Aliyah" 2148) through Waki' bin al-Jarrah, from al-Mundhir bin Tha'labah, from Abd Allah bin Buraydah, "mursal".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the "mursal" narration of Qays bin Abi Hazim, which is in Ibn Sa'd (5/ 54), Ibn Abi Shaybah (12/ 531, 14/ 343) and Ibn Asakir (46/ 144-145).
Technical note / Connected vs. mursal: Ibn Abi Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (84), Ibn Hibban (4540) and Ibn Asakir (2/ 27, 46/ 144) presented it as "connected" by mentioning Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) in the chain, but the more likely view is that it is "mursal". Although Qays's narration from Amr bin al-As is well known, if his hearing of this report from Amr is established, then the chain is sahih. And Allah knows best. Note: the hadith of Qays bin Abi Hazim contains no mention of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
