It is narrated from Amir that whenever Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) greeted Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him), he would say: 'As-salamu alayka ya Ibn Dhi al-Janahayn' (Peace be upon you, O son of the one with two wings).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it; and I have deferred the virtues of Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) so as to mention them in the chapter on the virtues of all the Companions.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Identification of the narrator: "Muhammad bin Abi Bakr" and "Umar bin Ali": both of them are "al-Muqaddami", and "Amir" is al-Sha'bi. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (4264) narrated it from Muhammad bin Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami, with this same chain. Technical note / Istidrak: So al-Hakim's adding it as something (al-Bukhari and Muslim) missed is an oversight on his part. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (3709) and al-Nasa'i (8102) narrated it likewise through Yazid bin Harun, from Isma'il bin Abi Khalid.
