Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4383

أخبرنا أبو عمرو عثمان بن أحمد بن السَّمّاك ببغداد، حدَّثنا عبد الرحمن بن محمد الحارثي، حدَّثنا يحيى بن سعيد القَطّان، حدَّثنا محمد بن أبي يحيى الأسلَمي، حدّثنى أبي، أنَّ أبا سعيد الخُدْري أخبره أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ كان بالحُدَيْبِيَّة، فقال: "لا تُوقِدُوا نارًا بلَيلٍ" فلما كان بعدَ ذلك قال: "أوقِدُوا واصطَنِعُوا، أما إنه لا يُدرِكُ قومٌ بعدَكم صاعَكُم ولا مدَّكُم" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was at al-Hudaybiyah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not light fires at night." Then after that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Light fires and prepare food. Remember! No people coming after you will attain (the rank and reward of) your one sa' and your one mudd."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: (2) This hadith is qawi (strong).
Technical note / Narrator criticism and accreditation: There is no harm in Abu Yahya al-Aslami (whose name is Sam'an) (la ba'sa bihi), and 'Abd al-Rahman bin Muhammad al-Harithi is his "mutabi'" (corroborator).
وأخرجه أحمد 17 (11208)، والنسائي (8804) عن يعقوب بن إبراهيم الدورقي، عن يحيى بن سعيد القطان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17/ 11208) and al-Nasa'i (8804) narrated it from Ya'qub bin Ibrahim al-Dawraqi, from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan, with this chain.
اصطنِعُوا: معناه اتخِذوا صَنيعًا، يعني طعامًا تنفقونه في سبيل الله.
Note / Clarification: "Istani'u": its meaning is "prepare a sani'" (a good deed / provision), i.e. food that you spend in the way of Allah.
