It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are three traits; whoever has them, Allah will take him into His shelter (protection), cover him with His mercy and admit him into His love." It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what are they? He said: "The one who, when he is given (something), gives thanks; when he has power, forgives; and when he becomes angry, cools down."
The chain of this hadith is sahih; Umar bin Rashid is a Shaykh from an area on the outskirts of Madinah, from whom senior hadith scholars have narrated.

Grading: Its chain is "talif" (utterly worthless), and Imam al-Dhahabi declared it "wahin" (extremely weak) in "al-Talkhis". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its defect is 'Umar bin Rashid, who is an "unknown" (majhul) shaykh, as stated by Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (5/ 17) and by Imam al-Bayhaqi after the narration in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (4119). Moreover, Abu Hatim al-Razi (al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil 6/ 108) and Ibn Hibban (al-Majruhin 2/ 93) accused him of fabricating hadith (wad'); Abu Hatim expressed surprise at Ya'qub bin Sufyan, how he could narrate from such a person. Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (4119) from Abu 'Ali bin Shadhan and Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi narrated it in "Talkhis al-Mutashabih fi al-Rasm" (p. 173), in the biography of Salih bin 'Abd Allah bin Salih, through the route of Salih bin 'Abd Allah al-Misri, from 'Umar bin Rashid.
Note / Clarification: In manuscript (B) and the printed edition the word is distorted to "al-Hijaz"; the correct word is "al-Jar". "Al-Jar" was an old town on the coast of the Red Sea, west of Madinah.
