It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the trench was being dug, I saw that the blessed stomach of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was severely drawn in from hunger. I hurried to my wife and said: I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a state of extreme hunger. My wife brought out a bag containing one sa' of barley, and we had a small young goat raised at home. I slaughtered it and ground the flour. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and whispered in his ear: O Messenger of Allah! We have slaughtered a small animal of ours and ground the one sa' of barley we had, so come, you and a few people with you. At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called out loudly: "O people of the Trench! Jabir has prepared a feast, so all of you come quickly!" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Until I come, do not take your cooking pot down from the fire, and do not bake the bread from your dough." I reached home, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also arrived, and the people began to come (group after group), until I went to my wife. She brought out the kneaded dough and placed it before him (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) put some of his blessed saliva into it and supplicated for blessing, then said: "Call a woman who bakes bread so that she may bake with you, and keep ladling the stew from your pot, but do not take it down from the fire." The Companions numbered one thousand. Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) swears by Allah that all of them ate their fill until they left the food and went away, while our pot was still bubbling (full of stew) just as it had been, and our dough was still (remaining) just as it had been, with bread being baked from it.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
