Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4313

It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Makkah for Madinah, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was with him (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) took all his wealth with him, which was five or six thousand dirhams. My grandfather Abu Quhafah, who had lost his sight, came to me and said: "By Allah! This man (Abu Bakr) has grieved you with regard to his wealth as well as his own person." I said: "Not at all, dear father! He has left a great deal of good (wealth) for us." So I took some stones and placed them in the niche (alcove) of the house where Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) used to keep his wealth, and then I covered those stones with a cloth. Then I came, took his hand and placed it on the cloth, and he said: "If he has left this (wealth), then it is fine." Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) says: By Allah! He had not left us anything, little or much.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) The text within brackets had dropped out of the manuscripts, and we have restored it from the narration of Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis in Ibn Asakir's "Tarikh Dimashq" (69/13), where he narrated it through the route of Ahmad bin Abd al-Jabbar. It is also established in the other narrations from Ibn Ishaq.
Technical note: Moreover, no narration is known from Yahya from his father's grandmother Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her).

Grading: (2) This chain is hasan because of Ibn Ishaq (Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar, the author of the Sirah).
Technical note: And he explicitly stated his "hearing" in Musnad Ahmad (so no suspicion of tadlis remains).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (44/26957) narrated it through the route of Ya'qub bin Ibrahim bin Sa'd, from his father, from Ibn Ishaq, with this same chain.
