أخبرنا أبو الحسن علي بن محمد بن عُقبة الشَّيباني، حدثنا الهيثَم بن خالد، حدثنا أبو غسان النَّهْدي، حدثنا الأجلح بن عبد الله، عن الشَّعْبي، عن جابر بن عبد الله، قال: لما قَدِمَ جعفرُ بن أبي طالب مِن أرضِ الحَبَشة، قال رسول الله ﷺ: "ما أدري بأيِّهما أنا أفرَحُ: بفتحِ خَيْبر، أم بقُدُومِ جعفر" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) returned from the land of Abyssinia, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know which of the two makes me happier: the conquest of Khaybar or the arrival of Ja'far."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) حسن لغيره، وهذا إسناد رجاله لا بأس بهم، لكن الصحيح أنه عن الشَّعْبي - وهو عامر بن شَراحِيل - مرسلٌ كما سيأتي برقم (5006)، لكن روي ما يشهد له. الهيثم بن خالد: هو ابن يزيد ورّاق أبي نعيم، وأبو غسان النَّهْدي: هو مالك بن إسماعيل.
Grading: (1) This hadith is hasan li-ghayrihi (hasan due to supporting evidence).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is no harm in the narrators of this chain (la ba'sa bihim), but the correct view is that it is mursal from al-Sha'bi (Amir bin Sharahil), as will come later (no. 5006); however, supporting reports for it have been narrated. Al-Haytham bin Khalid is "Ibn Yazid, the scribe (warraq) of Abu Nu'aym", and Abu Ghassan al-Nahdi is "Malik bin Isma'il".
وسيأتي موصولًا كذلك برقم (5005) من طريق الحسن بن الحسين العُرَني عن الأجلح.
Details of the narration: This narration will likewise come later as mawsul (with a connected chain) (no. 5005) through the route of al-Hasan bin al-Husayn al-Urani from al-Ajlah.
ويشهد له حديث أبي جحيفة عند الطبراني في "الكبير" (1470) و 22/ (244) وفي "الأوسط" (2003) وفي "الصغير" (30)، وإسناده حسن.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported (shahid) by the hadith of Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), found in al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (1470 and 22/244), "al-Awsat" (2003) and "al-Saghir" (30), and its chain is hasan.
