Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4282

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that we were sitting around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly a loud-voiced, desert-dwelling Yemeni Bedouin came riding his red she-camel. He made it kneel at the door of the mosque, came in, greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam and then sat down. When he had finished what he had to say, the people said: O Messenger of Allah! This she-camel that this Bedouin has is stolen. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is there firm testimony against him?" They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali! If the testimony against him is established, take Allah's right from this Bedouin; and if the testimony is not established, send him back to me." The narrator says: The Bedouin lowered his head for a while, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Bedouin! Stand up for the command of Allah, or else present your argument." Then the she-camel called out from behind the door: By the One who sent you with honour, O Messenger of Allah! This man did not steal me, nor has anyone besides him ever owned me. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Bedouin! By the One who gave this she-camel speech to declare your innocence, what did you say (while lowering your head)?" He said: I made this supplication: 'Allahumma innaka lasta bi-rabbin istahdathnaka, wa la ma'aka ilahun a'anaka 'ala khalqina, wa la ma'aka rabbun fa-nashukka fi rububiyyatika, anta rabbuna kama naqulu wa fawqa ma yaqulu al-qa'ilun, as'aluka an tusalliya 'ala Muhammadin wa an tubarri'ani bi-bara'ati' (O Allah! You are not a Lord whom we have newly invented, nor is there any god with You who helped You in creating us, nor is there any other Lord with You that we should doubt Your lordship. You are our Lord as we say, and far above what the sayers say. I ask You to send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and to clear me because of my innocence). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "O Bedouin! By the One who sent me with honour, I saw the angels racing one another at the turns of the lanes to write down these words of yours. So send blessings upon me abundantly."
All the narrators of this hadith are trustworthy, except that I have no knowledge of this Yahya bin Abdullah al-Misri as regards either his integrity or any criticism of him.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (1) That is: he relieved himself.

Grading: (1) This chain is "wahin" (extremely weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In it Yahya bin 'Abdullah al-Misri is "alone" in narrating from 'Abd al-Razzaq, and he is "majhul" (unknown), someone nobody knows. Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": "He is the one who fabricated it." Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "Lisan al-Mizan" (8/ 456): "It is clearly munkar, and it is fabricated (mawdu') with this chain mentioned."
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Then al-Hafiz said: al-Tabarani recorded it at length in "al-Du'a'" (1055) via Sa'id bin Musa al-Azdi al-Himsi, from al-Thawri, from 'Amr bin Dinar, from Nafi', from Ibn 'Umar.
Technical note (further): (In this chain) al-Yaman is weak, as will come in his biography, and this (fabrication) is more characteristic of Sa'id; perhaps the chain became switched around (inqalaba) upon al-Yaman, and it has already been stated about Sa'id that he is accused of fabricating hadith. (End of al-Hafiz's words.)
