It is narrated from Sayyiduna Tariq bin Abdullah al-Muharibi (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passing through the market of Dhu al-Majaz while I was busy with some trade of mine. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was wearing a red garment, and I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying in a loud voice: "O people, say: La ilaha illallah (there is no god but Allah), and you will be successful." Meanwhile, a man was following him, pelting him with stones, until he had made his heels bleed, and he was calling out: O people, do not obey him, for he is a liar. I asked: Who is this? The people said: This is a young man from Banu Abd al-Muttalib. Then, when Allah Almighty made Islam prevail, we set out from al-Rabadhah, and with us was a woman in a howdah, until we came and camped near Madinah. We had just sat down when a man came to us wearing two garments. He greeted us with salam and asked: "Where are you people from?" We said: We have come from al-Rabadhah. We had a red camel with us. He asked: "Will you sell me this camel?" We said: Yes. He asked: "For how much?" We told him the price: so many sa' of dates. He said: "I have bought it," and he did not bargain or haggle over the price at all. Then he took hold of the camel's halter and went off with it until he disappeared among the walls and orchards of Madinah. We began to say to one another: Do you know this man? When none of us claimed to recognise him, everyone began to blame one another, saying: You handed over your camel to a man you do not know! Then the woman in the howdah said: Do not blame one another. We have seen the face of a man who would never deceive you; I have never seen anything more resembling the full moon than his blessed face. When evening came, a man came to us and said: As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings); are you the people who came from al-Rabadhah? We said: Yes. He said: I have come to you as the messenger of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) orders you to eat from these dates until you are full, and to measure out your full due. So we ate those dates until we were full, and we received our full measure. Then the next day we entered Madinah and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) standing on the pulpit, delivering a sermon to the people. I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The hand of the giver is the upper (better) one. Begin with those in your care: your mother, your father, your sister and your brother, then whoever is closest to you." Meanwhile, a man from the Ansar stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, these are the people of Banu Tha'labah bin Yarbu' who killed so-and-so of ours in the days of ignorance, so take our revenge on them for us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands so high that I saw the whiteness of his armpits, and then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said (announcing a principle): "A mother's crime does not fall upon her child; a mother's crime does not fall upon her child (that is, one person will not be punished for another)."
This is a lengthy hadith with a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is "hasan" on account of Ahmad bin 'Abd al-Jabbar (al-'Utaridi), who is the transmitter of Yunus bin Bukayr's Maghazi from Ibn Ishaq, and he has been corroborated (mutaba'ah). Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban recorded it in full at (6562) via al-Fadl bin Musa, from Yazid bin Ziyad. Reference / Source: The part of it containing the address of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the pulpit was recorded by al-Nasa'i (2323) and Ibn Hibban (3341) via al-Fadl bin Musa, from Yazid bin Ziyad. Reference / Source: Its last, "marfu'" part was recorded by Ibn Majah (2670) via 'Abdullah bin Numayr, and by al-Nasa'i (7014) via al-Fadl bin Musa. Both of them (Ibn Numayr and al-Fadl) narrate it from Yazid bin Ziyad. Note / Clarification: "Al-biya'ah" (with kasrah on the ba' and a light ya'): it means "goods" (sil'ah). The apparent meaning is: "I was intending to sell some goods." Note / Clarification: "Al-za'inah": it means "woman". Originally it was the name of the riding animal on which one travelled (za'n); then it came to be applied to the woman who rode it. Note / Clarification: His (peace and blessings be upon him) saying "bi-man ta'ul" means: those whom you support and whose maintenance (food and clothing) is obligatory upon you.
