It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that during Hajj the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to present himself to the people at the Mawqif (the places where people stay on the plain of Arafat), saying: "Is there any man who will take me to his people? For Quraysh have prevented me from conveying the words of my Lord." Then a man from Banu Hamdan came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I am ready. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do your people have strength and the power to protect?" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him where he was from, and he said that he was from Hamdan. Then this man from Hamdan feared that his people might not stand by him and would put him to shame, so he came back to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I will first go to my people and inform them of the situation, and then I will meet you next year. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well." So he left, and then in the month of Rajab the delegation of the Ansar arrived.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading: This hadith is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is "strong" (qawi) on account of Mus'ab bin al-Miqdam, since there is no harm in him (la ba'sa bihi) and he has been corroborated (mutaba'ah). Abu Kurayb is Muhammad bin al-'Ala' al-Hamdani, Isra'il is Ibn Yunus al-Sabi'i, and Salim is Ibn Abi al-Ja'd. Reference / Source: Ahmad 23/ (15192) recorded it from Aswad bin 'Amir, Abu Dawud (4734) and al-Tirmidhi (2925) via Muhammad bin Kathir al-'Abdi, and Ibn Majah (201) and al-Nasa'i (7680) via 'Abdullah bin Raja'. All three (Aswad, Muhammad and 'Abdullah) narrate it from Isra'il with this same chain. Details of the narration: But the wording of the narrations of Muhammad bin Kathir and 'Abdullah bin Raja' is abridged, only up to "kalam Rabbi" (the speech of my Lord). Reference / Source: A similar narration will come shortly at number (4297) via Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him).
