حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا الخَضِرُ بن أبان الهاشمي، حدثنا سيّار بن حاتم، حدثنا جعفر بن سليمان، عن ثابت، عن أبي عثمان، عن سلمان الفارسي قال: كان سلمانُ في عِصَابة يذكرونَ الله، فمرَّ بهم رسول الله ﷺ، فجاء نحوَهم قاصدًا حتى دَنَا منهم، فكَفُّوا عن الحديث إعظامًا لرسول الله ﷺ، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "ما كنتم تقولون؟ فإني رأيتُ الرَّحمةَ تَنزَّلُ عليكم، فأحببتُ أن أشارِكَكم فيها" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح ولم يُخرجاه، وقد احتجَّا بجعفر بن سليمان (1)، فأما أبو سلمة سيَّار بن حاتم الزاهد فإنه عابدُ عصره، وقد أكثر أحمدُ بن حنبلٍ الروايةَ عنه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was sitting in a group remembering Allah when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came towards them until he drew near to them, and they fell silent out of reverence for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What were you saying? I saw mercy descending upon you, so I wanted to share in it with you."
This hadith is sahih, and the two Shaykhs used Ja'far bin Sulayman as evidence.

(2) إسناده ضعيف، الخضر بن أبان ضعفه الدارقطني والحاكم فيما قاله الذهبي في "ميزان الاعتدال" و "تاريخ الإسلام". أبو عثمان هو عبد الرحمن بن ملٍّ النهدي. ¤ ¤ وأخرجه أبو نعيم في "الحلية" 1/ 342 من طريق أحمد بن حنبل، عن سيار - وتحرَّف في المطبوع إلى: يسار - عن جعفر بن سليمان، عن ثابت البناني، عن سلمان. فأسقط الواسطة بين ثابت وسلمان فصار الإسناد بذلك منقطعًا.
Grading: Its chain is weak.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It contains al-Khadir bin Aban, whom al-Daraqutni and al-Hakim declared weak (as stated by al-Dhahabi in "Mizan al-I'tidal" and "Tarikh al-Islam"). Abu 'Uthman is 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mull al-Nahdi.
Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym narrated it in "al-Hilyah" 1/ 342 through the route of Imam Ahmad, from Sayyar (misprinted as Yasar in the printed edition), from Ja'far bin Sulayman, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Salman, without any intermediary, which makes this chain "munqati'" (broken).
