Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4231

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am al-Muqaffi (the one who follows after), I am al-Hashir, I am al-Khatim (the one who seals), and I am al-Aqib (the one who comes after all)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih; al-Husayn bin Humayd (Ibn al-Rabi') has some softness (lin), but he is corroborated.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 27/(16748) and (16770) via various routes from Hammad bin Salamah, with this chain, but mentioning "al-Mahi" instead of "al-Muqaffi."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The mention of "al-Muqaffi" has come in the narration of 'Ali bin al-Ja'd from Hammad bin Salamah, as in Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi's "Musnad Ibn al-Ja'd" (3322) and elsewhere; but the correct version in the narration of Nafi' bin Jubayr is the mention of "al-Mahi" instead of "al-Muqaffi," for 'Utbah bin Muslim narrated it from Nafi' bin Jubayr, from his father (in Ibn Sa'd 1/85 and elsewhere), mentioning "al-Mahi" instead of "al-Muqaffi."
Important point: It appears that the error of mentioning it here is from Hammad himself, for Hammad bin Salamah also narrated the hadith of Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman about the names of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (in Ahmad 38/(23443) and elsewhere), from 'Asim bin Bahdalah, from Zirr bin Hubaysh, from Hudhayfah, in which he mentioned "al-Muqaffi"; so its mention got confused for Hammad, and one hadith entered into another for him. And Allah knows best.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 27/(16734) and (16771), al-Bukhari (3532) and (4896), Muslim (2354), al-Tirmidhi (2840), al-Nasa'i (11526) and Ibn Hibban (6313) via Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, from Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im, from his father, mentioning: Muhammad, Ahmad, al-Mahi, al-Hashir and al-'Aqib.
Important point: It follows that the "mahfuz" (well-established) names in the hadith of Jubayr bin Mut'im, as narrated from him by his two sons Nafi' and Muhammad, are: Muhammad, Ahmad, al-Mahi, al-Hashir, al-'Aqib and al-Khatim.
Note / Clarification: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained the name "al-Mahi" in some routes of the hadith by saying: "The one through whom disbelief is erased." As for "al-'Aqib," some narrators explained it as: "The one after whom there is no prophet."
