Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4219

It is narrated from the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that they said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell us about yourself. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am the supplication of my father Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and the glad tidings of Isa (peace be upon him), and my mother saw, while she was pregnant with me, that a light came out of her by which Busra was illuminated." And Busra is in the land of Syria.
Imam al-Hakim says that Khalid bin Ma'dan is among the senior Tabi'in; he kept the company of Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) and the Companions after him. So when he narrates a hadith with a chain from the Companions, it has an authentic chain, even though the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is "hasan li-ghayrihi," and the narrators of this chain are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, the correct version from Ibn Ishaq (Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar) is his narration from Thawr (bin Yazid), from Khalid bin Ma'dan, as "mursal." Thus it was narrated by Ziyad bin 'Abdullah al-Bakka'i (as in "Sirat Ibn Hisham" 1/166) and Salamah bin al-Fadl al-Abrash (in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" 1/256 and his "Tarikh" 2/165), and likewise by 'Abd al-Wahhab bin 'Ata' and Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi from Thawr bin Yazid (in Ibn Sa'd's "al-Tabaqat al-Kubra" 1/125). Nevertheless, Ibn Kathir called the chain of the connected (mawsul) narration "good (jayyid)" in "al-Bidayah wa-l-Nihayah" 3/413, and he (may Allah have mercy on him) did not point out the narration of those who narrated it as mursal!
Reference / Source: It is in Ibn Ishaq's "al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah" in the transmission of Yunus bin Bukayr (33), which additionally contains the story of the opening of his (peace and blessings be upon him) chest.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Bayhaqi in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" 1/83 from Abu 'Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of al-'Irbad bin Sariyah in Ahmad 28/(17150), which will come after it; al-Dhahabi declared it "hasan" in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" in the section on the Prophet's biography.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And by the hadith of Abu Umamah in Ahmad 36/(22261) and others; it contains a weak narrator, but he is considered in corroborations and supporting reports. The dream of his (peace and blessings be upon him) mother has a supporting report from the hadith of 'Utbah bin 'Abd al-Sulami, which will come with the author (al-Hakim) under no. (4276).
Reference / Source: And from the hadith of Halimah al-Sa'diyyah in Ibn Hibban (6335), but its chain contains an unknown narrator and a break (inqita').
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And from the mursal reports of Abu al-'Ajfa', Ibn al-Qibtiyyah and Ishaq bin 'Abdullah bin Abi Talhah in Ibn Sa'd 1/82 and 83, whose narrators are thiqah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It has other routes with al-Waqidi, which Ibn Sa'd (1/81) mentioned from him, in which al-Waqidi is not corroborated.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): So said the author (al-Hakim), and it is a mistake on his part (may Allah have mercy on him), for Khalid bin Ma'dan did not meet Mu'adh bin Jabal; it is known that Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) died in the plague of 'Amwas in the year 18 AH. Hence Abu Hatim al-Razi, al-Bazzar and others stated firmly that his narration from him is mursal. He narrated in mursal form from a number of Companions who died in the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs; hence al-Dhahabi said in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" 4/537: "He narrated from many Companions, and most of that is mursal."
