أخبرنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن عبد الله بن دِينار العَدْل، حدثنا السَّرِي بن خُزَيمة والحسن بن الفضل، قالا: حدثنا عفّان بن مُسلِم، حدثنا همّام، حدثنا قَتَادة، عن عبد الرحمن بن آدم، عن أبي هريرة، أن النبي ﷺ قال: "إنَّ رُوحَ اللهِ عيسى ابنَ مريم نازِلٌ فيكم، فإذا رأيتُمُوه فاعرفُوه: رجلٌ مربُوعٌ إلى الحُمْرة والبَياض، عليه ثَوبانِ مُمَصَّران، كأنَّ رأسَه يَقطُر وإن لم يُصِبْه بَلَلٌ، فيَدُقُّ الصَّليبَ، ويَقتُل الخِنزيرَ، ويَضعُ الجِزيةَ، ويَدعُو الناس إلى الإسلام، فيُهلِكُ اللهُ في زمانِه المسيحَ الدَّجّال، وتقعُ الأمَنَةُ على أهلِ الأرض، حتى تَرْتَعَنَّ (1) الأسُودُ مع الإبِل، والنمُورُ مع البقر، والذئابُ مع الغَنَم، ويَلعبَ الصبيانُ مع الحيَّات، لا تَضرُّهنّ فيَمكُث أربعين سنةً، ثم يُتَوَفَّى ويُصلِّي عليه المُسلِمون" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the spirit of Allah, Isa ibn Maryam, is going to descend among you. So when you see him, recognise him: he will be a man of medium height, of a reddish-white complexion, wearing two garments dyed light yellow-red. His head will look as though drops are dripping from it, although no moisture has touched it. He will break the cross, kill the swine, abolish the jizyah and call people to Islam. Allah will destroy the Masih al-Dajjal in his time, and such peace and security will descend upon the people of the earth that lions will graze with camels, leopards with cattle and wolves with sheep, and children will play with snakes and they will not harm them. He will remain (on earth) for forty years, then he will pass away and the Muslims will offer his funeral prayer."

Note / Clarification: Manuscript (S) has the word "tarta'i" ("it grazes").
(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد رجاله لا بأس بهم لكن نَفَى ابن مَعِين سماع قتادة من عبد الرحمن بن آدم مع أنه محتمل، فإنهما كانا بالبصرة متعاصِرَين.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and the narrators of this chain are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): However, Ibn Ma'in denied that Qatadah heard from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Adam, although it is possible, since both were contemporaries in Basra.
وقد صحَّح إسنادَه الحافظُ ابن حجر في "الفتح" 10/ 259. وله طرق عن أبي هريرة وشواهد غير ذكر الصلاة على عيسى ﵇.
Grading: Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared its chain sahih in "al-Fath" 10/259.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has other routes from Abu Hurayrah and supporting reports (except for the mention of praying the funeral prayer over 'Isa (peace be upon him)).
وأخرجه أحمد 15/ (9270) و (9632)، وأبو داود (4324)، وابن حبان (6821) من طريقين عن قتادة، به.
